at the City of Milpitas Veterans Memorial |
Members of the St. Joseph Assembly 2246 Color Corp provided an honor guard for the presentation of the colors during ceremonies marking not just Veterans Day but also the rededication of the City of Milpitas' Veterans Memorial. We are presenting some pictures of this event for your enjoyment.

Lead in by the sound of the bagpipes played by Jim Tuttle of the Monte Soreno
Police Department, members of the St. Joseph Color Corp along with fellow
Sir Knights march in with the colors to begin the ceremony. In the background
is the new Milpitas City Hall which was completed and opened a month earlier.
The area where the Color Corp is marching was once a pond that was drained
and relandscaped. The building to the left is the City of Milpitas Community
Center while the building to the right is the Milpitas City Library.
The
Color Corp consisted of 2 Color Corp commanders, 6 Sir Knights in color and
3 Sir Knights in Tuxedo. The Sir Knights in Tuxedo were position in the middle
of the column and carried in the American flag, the California state flag,
and MIA flag. As the column neared the flag poles, the column halted and allowed
the 3 Sir Knights to go up the mound to the flag poles. The column then closed
ranks and manuvered into a single file line centered on the middle flag pole.
Pictured
here are Sir Knights Lou Horyza (nearest the U.S. Marine) and Lud Indihar.
The cremony called for the Color Corp to stand in front of the flag poles
in single file and at the beginning of the Star Bangled Banner, they would
salute as the flags were being raised. The American flag would be raised first,
then the California state flag and the MIA flag would be raised together once
the American flag reached the top of the flag pole.
After the flag raising ceremonies were conducted, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, again the Color Corp saluted, and afterwards members of the Milpitas City Council continued with the balance of the ceremonies. Jim Tuttle closed the ceremony by the playing of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

Shown pictured in this group shot taken after the ceremonies, beginning with the front row going from left to right, we have Sir Knights Ed Madarang, Lou Horyza, and Lud Indihar. In the back row, going from left to right, we have Sir Knights Bill Poehlman, St. Joseph Assembly Color Corp Commander SK Greg Dessel, Color Corp Commander SK Guy Ferry, Mike Donnelly, Ed Blake, Danny Campos, Ed Kantack, and Phil Santamaria.
