Soccer Challenge

Soccer Challenge

In addition being a Sir Knight and member of the St. Joseph Assembly Color Corps Competition team, Brother Guillermo Uribe also has another passion that he follows, soccer. Guillermo has been an active soccer coach for a couple of years and it wasn't surprising when he stepped forward to take the Chairmanship of the Knights of Columbus sponsored Soccer Challenge.

Brother Guillermo has been coaching his daugher Celine's soccer teams and when it was announced that the Knights of Columbus would be coming out with another youth activity, he stepped forward.

The soccer challenge works something like this, similar to the basketball free throw competition, the soccer challenge is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 10 to 14 years of age. The objective of the challenge is that each of the contestants are given the opportunity to take a given number of penalty kicks to see where within the confines of the goal the ball lands. Points are awarded by judges as to the area of the goal where the ball lands.

The contestants are placed 12 yards away from the goal post. They are alloted 3 practice kicks. When the competition starts, each contestant is allowed 12 kicks. Points are awarded as follows:

While the number of participants for this first Soccer Challenge were small, we're hoping that it catches on has many more boys and girls coming out to compete.

Below are some pictures of our first Soccer Challenge.
