Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of St. Jude

The Dominican Monastery of St. Jude was established August 17, 1944 as the first interracial Monastery of contemplative nuns in the United States. Any young woman called to the cloistered life is considered for admission regardless of race or national origin. For more information, you may e-mail them at

At the invitation of Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen and with the assistance of Father Harold Purcell, Mother Mary Dominic, O.P. and Mother Mary of the Child Jesus, O.P. came from the Monastery in Catonsville, MD to begin the work of cloistered, contemplative life here.
