Once a year,
St. Elizabeth's Council 8747 honors the dedicated service performed by those
young members of our parish who volunteer their time and talents for the Ministry
of Altar Server. To reward these dedicated young people, the St. Elizabeth's
Council not only publicly acknowledged their participation and service at
each of the Masses but also takes them to see a semi-pro baseball game with
the San Jose Giants. The Altar Servers are recruited and trained by
Mrs. Brenda Wong and we are most grateful for her time and dedication in making
sure that our Altar Servers are outstanding in this most important of ministries.
In some instances, our Altar Servers give up other activities so that they can perform a most vital task in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Our altar servers range in age from 8 years of age all the way up through seniors in high school.
Our altar servers' talents range from participation in school sports (track, football, wrestling) to membership in the NJROTC. Some of our altar servers have even become goodwill ambassadors and have traveled to the far reaches of the world including Australia and New Zealand. Other altar servers attend our CCD program to enrich their understanding of the Catholic faith. Some altar servers, upon reaching their high school years, join our parish's Teen Group and even enrich their lives more. At St. Elizabeth's parish, it takes a minimum of 3 altar servers to properly do the mass (cross bearer and 2 acolytes). This means that recruitment for this activity is an ongoing situation.
