January 18, 2008
Worthy Brother Knights,
At the DD Midterm meeting, Marvin Hayes had distributed 'Marriage Initiative' literature and petition signature sheets to those in attendance - with instructions to get these into the hands of the Chapters, Assemblies, and Councils for pending planning of the collection of signatures for this 'Marriage Initiative'.
Attached to this email are files explaining the efforts that that are needed to get this initiative on the ballot. This effort was discussed at the DD Midterm meeting on December 1, 2007.
To those Faithful Navigators and Grand Knights without email, this information will need to be flowed down by the Chapter President or the District Deputy. To facilitate this, a file of those FNs and GKs without email addresses has been sent to each Chapter President and District Deputy.
To facilitate the pending planning and organizational efforts for the gathering of signatures, this email has the purpose of requesting an emailed or written response from each Chapter President, each Faithful Navigator ,and each Grand Knight for the following information.
NOTE - a RESPONSE is required from EACH:
(1) Has your organization initiated a program to collect signatures as outlined in the attached? (Yes or No)
(2) If no, does your organization plan to collect signatures for this effort? (Yes or No)
(3) Please describe in a paragraph or two the program's status (i.e. implementation, Parishes involved, signatures collected, names of chairmen, etc.)
(4) Describe any problems that may have been encountered to date..
(5) When petition signatures have been collected on church property, in all cases have the appropriate permissions been obtained from the Pastor? (Yes or No)
Due to the URGENCY and the fast approaching April 1, 2008 deadline for signatures, the Marriage Initiative effort is fast becoming a high priority. Letters from the Church Hierarchy will be forthcoming with details for what is expected and needed for support and participation by ALL.
I need the above information AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Please email or mail your responses to the State Office.
Yours in Faith, Charity, and Family
James R. Scroggin
State Deputy
